Three smart home devices LG is developing in collaboration with Apple have surfaced in regulatory filings, revealing their designs and several features ahead of Apple’s expected smart home launch.
The newly uncovered FCC documents include drawings and technical details for a smart thermostat, temperature sensor, and deadbolt lock, offering the clearest look yet at hardware intended to work with Apple’s upcoming home hub.
A thermostat that can detect when you’re nearby
LG’s thermostat features a circular, puck-shaped design with a raised outer edge and a built-in 60 GHz radar sensor.
That radar could let the thermostat detect when someone approaches or enters a room, potentially adjusting its behavior without anyone touching the controls.
The device also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter, making it compatible with modern smart home systems. Additional settings reference a Far Sight Display, humidity readings, screen brightness, and temperature calibration.
The smaller temperature sensor has a similarly circular design but runs on a replaceable coin-cell battery.
It measures temperature and humidity, supports Bluetooth and Thread, and can attach to metal surfaces magnetically or use an included mounting plate.
The smart lock uses two wireless technologies to recognize you
LG’s smart deadbolt combines Bluetooth and ultra-wideband technology to enable proximity-based unlocking.
The lock first checks a nearby device’s access credentials over Bluetooth, then uses ultra-wideband to determine its position before granting access. That could let someone approach their front door and unlock it without reaching for a key or opening an app.
Available in Graphite and Silver, the lock also includes a keypad, NFC support, an audible door-left-open alert, and two physical keys. Four AA batteries provide power.
Apple’s smart home lineup is taking shape
Apple’s involvement isn’t identified in the FCC filings, although the company is reportedly helping LG develop the accessories’ designs, features, and engineering.
The three devices are part of a broader seven-product lineup that also includes a video doorbell, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and a floodlight camera. LG will manufacture and sell the products under its own brand.
Apple is expected to introduce its new home hub alongside an updated Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini on October 13. The LG accessories are expected to follow several months later.
Apple is also developing a separate AI-powered home security camera for 2027.
