tvOS 27 wasn’t a major focus during Apple’s WWDC presentation. The company spent most of its time on iOS, macOS, and Apple Intelligence, while Apple TV software received only a brief mention on stage.
Still, the update includes a handful of improvements for Apple TV users.
Faster AirPlay Performance
One of the more practical changes is improved AirPlay performance when streaming content from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Apple TV.
Apple says connections should be faster, which could reduce the delay that sometimes occurs when starting a stream.
The update also includes general performance improvements to make navigation, animations, and app launches feel smoother.
Podcasts Gets an Update
Apple is refreshing the Podcasts app on Apple TV with a redesigned interface and support for Smart Downloads.
That means episodes can be downloaded automatically and kept up to date without requiring manual management.
For users who listen to podcasts through their television or home audio setup, the experience should feel more in line with Apple’s other platforms.
Larger Text Support Arrives
tvOS 27 also adds support for Larger Text, making it easier to read menus, settings, and other interface elements from across the room.
The feature has been available on Apple’s other operating systems for years and should be a welcome addition for users who prefer larger on-screen text or need additional accessibility options.
Another small but useful change is the addition of AppleCare information directly within the Settings app. Users will be able to view their coverage details without checking their email or visiting Apple’s website.
Availability
The developer beta is available now, with a public beta scheduled for July. Apple plans to release tvOS 27 to supported Apple TV models this fall alongside its other operating system updates.
While tvOS 27 isn’t a major overhaul, it includes several quality-of-life improvements that should make the Apple TV experience a little smoother for everyday users.
