Apple updated its Invites app on Wednesday with a useful improvement for shared photos, along with new AI-generated backgrounds and an easier way for guests to verify their email addresses.
Version 1.12.0 now preserves the original resolution of photos added to an event’s shared album instead of compressing them.
That makes the built-in album considerably more useful for collecting photos after a party, wedding, trip, or other event where guests may want copies at their original quality.
The albums aren’t limited to Apple users either. Anyone invited to an event can join and contribute photos, including guests who don’t own an Apple device.
Image Playground can now create photorealistic backgrounds
Apple has also expanded the Image Playground tools built into Invites with a new photorealistic style.
The app already lets hosts generate custom artwork for invitations, but the new option goes beyond the more illustrated and animated styles previously available.
Email verification has been simplified as well. Guests who need to verify their email address no longer have to retrieve a numeric code from their inbox and enter it manually.
Apple now sends a link that verifies the address with a tap, removing an extra step before accessing an event.
Apple Invites remains free to download, and guests can RSVP without paying or owning an Apple device.
Creating an event still requires an iCloud+ subscription, which starts at $0.99 per month for 50GB of storage. Version 1.12.0 is available now through the App Store.
