Apple Is Making Some of Its Smartest iOS 27 AI Features Exclusive to Higher-Paying Customers, and Here’s Who Misses Out

In iOS 27, Apple is making its new AI-powered Home app features exclusive to higher-tier storage plans.

Using Apple Intelligence to summarize motion alerts and search camera footage requires a 2TB iCloud+ plan or an Apple One Premier subscription.

The first involves the Home app. Apple Intelligence is coming to HomeKit in iOS 27, and at least some of those features will only activate if your iCloud plan sits at the 2TB level.

Apple’s beta documentation states directly: “Apple Intelligence for Home requires an iCloud+ subscription starting at 2TB.”

The specific features caught behind that paywall include AI-generated descriptions of security camera footage, the ability to search through video clips by content, and automatic surfacing of clips Apple’s system considers worth reviewing.

Daily AI Limits Apply to Everyone Except Premier Subscribers

The second change affects how much AI you can actually use each day. Several iOS 27 Apple Intelligence features, including image generation, run on Apple’s servers rather than on the device itself.

Because of that, Apple is imposing daily usage caps. Subscribers on Apple One Premier get higher caps than everyone else, according to Apple’s own documentation for the update.

That distinction cuts across Apple One’s own tier structure. The Individual plan, which is Apple One’s entry-level option, includes an iCloud+ subscription that does not meet the 2TB threshold.

Users on that plan will face the standard daily limits and will not have access to the Home AI camera features. Moving to Premier is the only way to stay within Apple One and qualify for both upgrades.

What Apple One Premier Actually Costs

Apple One Premier is priced at $37.95 per month for individuals and covers Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and iCloud+ with 2TB of storage.

The Individual plan starts at $19.95 per month but includes only 50GB of iCloud+ storage, which falls well short of the new AI requirements.

For anyone already paying for a 2TB iCloud plan separately, the math on Premier becomes simpler. A standalone 2TB iCloud+ subscription runs $9.99 per month.

Premier adds Apple Music, Apple TV+, and the other services on top of that storage tier for roughly $28 more per month, depending on what a given user already pays individually.

Apple has not confirmed whether every Home app AI feature in iOS 27 requires the higher iCloud tier or only the HomeKit Secure Video capabilities.

The beta language leaves that partially open, though the camera-related features appear to be the clearest examples tied to the subscription requirement so far.
