If you have been waiting for Apple Sports to actually show up inside CarPlay, good news arrived this week.
The latest update to the Apple Sports app now brings widget support directly into CarPlay, so you can keep tabs on live scores without fumbling around in other apps while you are on the road.
This was noticeably missing when Apple rolled out a Sports widget for iOS last year. CarPlay users got left out, which felt like an odd gap given how much Apple has been pushing the updated CarPlay experience with iOS 26. That gap is now closed.

Two Widget Options to Choose From
You get two different widget setups depending on how you like to follow sports. The first is a league widget, which pulls in live scores and schedules for any league or sport you want to track.
The second is a Teams widget that keeps the focus on your favorite teams. Both options display live scores inside the CarPlay widgets interface, and you can stack up to three widgets side by side in most vehicles.
Why This Beats the Live Activities Approach
Before this update, the main way to follow a game through CarPlay was via Live Activities, which dropped a small score widget onto the CarPlay dashboard.
It worked, but the dashboard would get crowded fast. The new widgets interface feels much cleaner.
Having three widgets lined up side by side gives you more info at a glance without turning your screen into a cluttered mess.
Do you actually check live scores while driving, or is this one of those features that sounds better than it is?
