Your iPhone Can Now Turn Text Messages Into Reminders Without Copying a Word, but iOS 27.2 Leaves Some Older Models Behind

A dinner invitation, package tracking number, or address sent through Messages can now become a shortcut you can act on without leaving the conversation.

Apple’s iOS 27.2 update introduces Suggested Actions in Messages, an Apple Intelligence feature that recognizes useful information in incoming texts and offers relevant shortcuts beneath them.

For example, if someone mentions dinner plans for next Friday, Messages may suggest adding the event to Calendar. A shipping notification could trigger a package tracking shortcut.

The suggestions appear directly beneath individual messages, keeping them accessible without interrupting the conversation.

Also: Anyone who just bought an iPad Air might wish they’d waited, because a much better screen could be just a few months away now

You Can Choose Which Suggestions Appear

Apple provides five separate controls for Suggested Actions, allowing you to disable categories you don’t find useful while keeping the others enabled.

To customize them:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Apps > Messages.
  3. Select Suggested Actions.
  4. Turn individual suggestions on or off.

All five categories are enabled by default:

  • Add to Calendar: Create events from plans mentioned in messages.
  • Add to Reminders: Turn tasks or requests into reminders.
  • Add to Notes: Save useful information for later.
  • Show in Maps: Open addresses and locations directly in Maps.
  • Flights and Packages: Access flight details and shipment tracking.

You can keep calendar and reminder suggestions enabled, for instance, while disabling Maps prompts if you rarely use them.

Also: Before you spend $59 replacing a lost Apple TV remote, iOS 27.2 may help you find the one you already have using your iPhone

Suggested Actions Requires Apple Intelligence

Because the feature relies on Apple Intelligence, it’s only available on compatible iPhones running iOS 27.2. Older models won’t receive these suggestions simply by installing the update.

The biggest convenience is eliminating the need to copy information from a conversation and manually open another app.

A restaurant address can become a Maps shortcut, while a request from a friend can turn into a reminder with a single tap.

For now, Suggested Actions works with Apple’s built-in apps. There’s no indication yet whether support for third-party calendar, navigation, or note-taking apps will arrive in a future update.
