Apple released tvOS 27.2, bringing new accessibility options, more customizable screen savers, and expanded user profiles to Apple TV 4K.
The update also sets the stage for two major additions: Apple’s redesigned Siri AI assistant and four-speaker HomePod surround sound. Neither is available yet, but both are expected in the coming weeks.
Here’s what’s new and what Apple TV owners can expect next.
1. Sign language support in the Apple TV app
The Apple TV app now supports American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for select movies and television shows.
Viewers can enable sign language interpretation through Settings or directly from the playback controls while watching supported content.
Availability depends on the title, so the feature won’t appear across the entire Apple TV catalog.
2. A new Shuffle option for screen savers
Apple TV screen savers no longer have to stick to a single category.
A new Shuffle option automatically rotates between Aerials, Memories and Slideshows, Portraits, and Snoopy screen savers.
Apple has also added more control over personal photos, allowing users to choose which images appear in the Portraits and Memories categories.
That should help anyone who enjoys displaying family photos on their television but doesn’t want every picture in their library on the big screen.
3. Apple TV profiles expand to iPhone and iPad
User profiles in the Apple TV app now extend beyond the streaming box.
With iOS 27.2, viewers can access their individual Apple TV profiles on iPhone and iPad, making it easier to keep personalized viewing experiences consistent across devices.
The profile selection screen also gets new character artwork featuring familiar faces from The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater.
4. Apple Music gets a refreshed appearance
The Apple Music app on Apple TV receives an updated icon and minor interface changes as part of the service’s recent visual rebrand.
The changes are largely cosmetic, with no major new playback features included in this release.
5. Siri AI and four-speaker surround sound are on the way
Two of the most significant features associated with tvOS 27.2 are still awaiting activation.
Siri AI will bring Apple’s more conversational assistant to Apple TV 4K, with improved understanding of personal context, broader knowledge, and the ability to perform more actions across apps.
Unlike the upcoming surround sound feature, Siri AI won’t require the newest Apple TV. Apple says it will support second-generation Apple TV 4K models and later.
HomePod surround sound, meanwhile, will be exclusive to the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, arriving November 13.
The feature allows four compatible HomePods to work together as front and rear speaker pairs, with automatic calibration of speaker positions, timing, and audio levels.
Supported speakers include the second-generation HomePod and HomePod mini 2, with mixed configurations allowed as long as each pair uses matching models.
Both features are expected to become available in the coming weeks.
