Fortunately, this can be a relatively easy problem to fix. This guide walks you through several troubleshooting steps that will help you fix the Speech Services Waiting for Network Connection error message.

There is no definitive way to pinpoint the exact reason behind the Speech Services Waiting for Network Connection notification on your Android mobile.

It could be a problem with the Google Play Store or the app itself. We’ve listed below the most common causes of this error message.

Fix Speech Services Waiting for Network Connection Error on Android

So, without further ado, let’s dive into the solutions for fixing the speech services waiting for network connection problem on your Android device.

  1. Reboot Android Device
  2. Force Stop Speech Services by Google
  3. Clear Speech Services App Cache & Data 
  4. Change Settings in Google App
  5. Update Speech Services by Google
  6. Reinstall Speech Services by Google   

1. Reboot Android Device 

If you are getting speech services waiting for network connection error on your Android mobile, restart the device.  

It’s a no-brainer. Rebooting the electronic device is an excellent fix for minor issues and before jumping into the solutions that involve complicated steps, you should give it a try.  

Maybe, you will get lucky, and the issue will be fixed after hitting the Restart button on the Power Menu

If the issue is persistent even after the reboot. Don’t worry, we have more effective solutions ready for you. 

2. Force Stop Speech Services by Google  

The speech services waiting for network connection error on your Android mobile is basically an error related to the Speech Service by Google application. 

This app runs in the background of your mobile, and its text-to-speech functionality is used by multiple applications.

Something likely went wrong when the app was launched, or it may be malfunctioning as the app is running for a long time without being closed.

In this situation, force closing the app and relaunching it could be the way to resolve this issue.  

  1. Launch the Settings app and select Apps
  2. Locate Speech Services by Google and tap on it. 
  3. On the App Info page, tap on the Force Stop option below.

After tapping on Force Stop, the app, and all its functions will be closed. Now, you can reboot the Android device.

The Speech Service by Google will be launched automatically as soon as the Android device starts again.  

3. Clear Speech Services App Cache & Data

Piled-up or corrupted app cache can give rise to a lot of issues. The good news is that these files are temporary files.

Removing them won’t cause any hindrances and likely fix the app’s performance.  

If the speech services error is still bothering you, then you need to remove all the Speech Services by Google app’s cache files, and while you are at it, remove the app data as well.  

  1. Launch the Settings app and select Apps
  2. Locate Speech Services by Google and tap on it. 
  3. On the App Info page, tap on the Storage option
  4. Tap on the Clear Cache and Clear Data options under the Storage Menu

After clearing the cache and data for the Speech Services by Google, reboot the device. The issue has likely been fixed.

4. Change Settings in Google App

One of the least invasive fixes for the speech services waiting for network connection problem on Android is to change the voice settings in the Google app.

The steps below will show you how to do it:

1. Open the Android Settings app and tap on Google

2. Scroll down and tap on the Settings for Google App option.

3. In the following list, select Search, Assistant and Voice option. 

4. Now, tap on Voice and then, select Offline Speech Recognition

4. Choose the Auto-Update tab.

5. Now, there are three options to choose from. Exclude the “Do Not Auto-Update” option, and that leaves two.

Among these two options, one of them will be already selected. So, choose the other one.

(In my case, “Auto-Update languages Over Wi-Fi Only” was already selected. So, I changed it to “Auto-Update Languages at Any Time. Data Charges May Apply”)

6. At this moment, it is important to connect your mobile to a Wi-Fi network if you do not want to attract unwanted data charges. So, after connecting to Wi-Fi, go back to the Installed tab. 

All the installed languages will be listed here, and a pop-up will appear with multiple options. If there’s an Update option available on the pop-up, tap on it.    

It is also possible that the said option is not available on the pop-up. If so, do not worry. Just go back and reboot the device. 

5. Update Speech Services by Google 

Updating the Speech Service by Google can be effective if you are getting the Speech Services Waiting for Network Connection on your Android device. 

Although, there is a thin chance that an update may be available. Still, it won’t hurt to give it a try. 

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app.
  2. Locate Speech Services by Google app. 
  3. Tap on the Update button if available. 

If you see the update button, tap on it, and the problem should get fixed after the update. If you do not see an update button, do not get disappointed. There’s still another fix you can try. So, keep reading. 

6. Reinstall Speech Services by Google 

If there wasn’t any update available, a clean installation should be effective. So, you just have to uninstall Speech Services by Google from your mobile and then install the app again.

Here are the steps.    

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app.
  2. Locate Speech Services by Google app. 
  3. Tap on the Uninstall button.

After hitting the uninstall button, the app will be removed from the device immediately. You can reboot the device if you want. After that, go back to the Play Store and install the app again.
