Apple is preparing to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models later this month, marking a major change for a company that has spent years resisting touch input on its laptops.
The new MacBook Pro models are expected to debut around October 27 alongside an OLED iPad mini, an M6-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro, and an updated iMac, according to Bloomberg.
That would give Apple two major product announcements in October, with its smart home lineup scheduled for an earlier unveiling on October 13.
MacBook Pro Finally Gets Touch
The redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to feature OLED displays, touchscreen support, and thinner, lighter designs.
They’ll also reportedly introduce the Dynamic Island to the Mac for the first time, replacing the familiar display notch with a pill-shaped cutout similar to the one found on recent iPhones.
Despite earlier speculation about a new MacBook Ultra name, Apple is expected to keep both models within the MacBook Pro lineup.
Touch support would represent a significant change in Apple’s approach to the Mac. The company has long argued that reaching up to interact with a laptop display is uncomfortable, favoring the keyboard and trackpad instead.
The new models suggest Apple is ready to rethink that position, although it remains unclear how extensively macOS will adapt to touchscreen controls.
The machines have reportedly been tested with macOS 27.1, which is also expected to arrive later this month.
OLED Comes to the iPad Mini
The iPad mini is getting a notable display upgrade of its own, moving from LCD to OLED for the first time.
The new model is also expected to feature Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented front camera for more natural video calls, and a redesigned speaker system.
OLED should deliver deeper blacks and improved contrast, particularly noticeable when watching videos or reading in darker environments.
However, the smaller tablet is still expected to retain a 60Hz refresh rate rather than adopt the smoother 120Hz ProMotion technology available on Apple’s higher-end iPads.
Two Launches in October
Apple’s first announcement is scheduled for October 13, when the company is expected to introduce a new smart home hub, an updated HomePod mini, and a refreshed Apple TV 4K.
The second round of products is reportedly planned for around October 27, with touchscreen MacBook Pro models and the OLED iPad mini taking center stage.
For anyone considering a MacBook Pro or iPad mini purchase, the reported launch timing makes waiting a few more weeks worth considering, particularly with substantial hardware upgrades potentially so close.
