Apple Music is losing its familiar red color scheme, while the Books app is getting redesigned reading controls as part of the upcoming iOS 27.2 update.
Both changes are expected next week, with Apple Music getting a more noticeable visual overhaul and Books introducing a revised interface that could work better on the iPhone Duo.
Apple Music Ditches Its Signature Red
Following Apple Music’s recent branding overhaul, iOS 27.2 replaces much of the app’s familiar red styling with a black-and-white design.
The Music app icon is changing to monochrome, marking a significant departure from the red identity Apple has used for years.
Inside the app, the active tab indicator switches from red to blue, while Library categories such as Playlists, Artists, and Albums adopt a monochrome appearance.
The changes extend to Home Screen widgets, too. Apple is replacing their familiar red backgrounds with black across all available widget sizes.
Anyone who keeps an Apple Music widget on their Home Screen or Today View will notice the difference immediately.
The new design follows Apple’s broader effort to refresh Apple Music’s visual identity, giving the service a more understated appearance.
Apple Books Gets Easier-to-Reach Reading Controls
The Books app is getting a more practical redesign, with several familiar buttons moved into the reading interface.
Here’s what’s changing:
- Bookmark button: Now appears in the upper-right corner, making it accessible without opening a menu.
- Close button: Moves to the upper-left corner.
- Back button: Shifts to the lower-left corner and becomes larger.
- Reading progress: New progress bars make it easier to track your position in a book.
The bottom-right menu also adopts Apple’s Liquid Glass design, bringing it in line with menus used throughout iOS.
These adjustments may be particularly useful on the iPhone Duo, which features a 7.6-inch inner display suited to reading books.
Using standard system interface components should also make it easier for Books to adapt to the foldable’s different screen configurations.
Apple hasn’t explicitly linked the redesign to the Duo, however, so that connection remains speculative.
Both app updates are expected to arrive with iOS 27.2 next week. Apple has not yet announced an exact public release date.
