Your Apple Watch could soon help you remember something you missed during a conversation or recall important details from discussions earlier in the day.
Apple is introducing Live Rewind and Siri Recap in the first watchOS 27.3 beta, bringing two previously announced Audio Intelligence features to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.
Both features use the S11 chip and are expected to reach the public with watchOS 27.3 in December.
Live Rewind Lets You Check What Someone Just Said
Live Rewind gives users a way to retrieve the last 15 seconds of surrounding speech.
If you miss something during a conversation, double-pressing the Digital Crown brings up a transcript of what was just said.
The feature could be useful when someone speaks too quickly, or you miss an important detail and don’t want to ask them to repeat it.
When activated, Live Rewind plays an audible chime and displays a full-screen animation to alert people nearby.
Transcriptions aren’t saved automatically. They remain temporary unless you explicitly ask Siri about the content or choose to save it.
Siri Recap Summarizes Conversations Throughout the Day
Siri Recap takes a different approach, automatically generating short summaries of conversations throughout the day.
Rather than preserving word-for-word transcripts, it creates a title and key points to help users remember important details.
Summaries are deleted after seven days unless saved manually.
Users can also control when the feature operates, including restricting it to certain hours or locations. A Control Center toggle provides another way to turn it on or off.
How Apple Protects Conversation Privacy
Both features involve processing surrounding speech, making privacy a central part of Apple’s Audio Intelligence system.
Raw audio is handled through the S11 chip’s Secure Exclave, a hardware-isolated environment designed to process sensor information.
Apple says audio recordings aren’t created or stored, and neither apps nor the operating system can access the raw audio.
Live Rewind processes speech entirely on-device, while Siri Recap uses Apple’s Private Cloud Compute to generate summaries.
Neither feature identifies individual speakers, and Siri Recap is designed to exclude potentially sensitive information. Both require users to opt in.
Availability and Requirements
Live Rewind and Siri Recap are exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, paired with an iPhone 16 or newer that supports Apple Intelligence.
Both features initially support English only. They’re unavailable to children under 13, while users under 18 require parental approval.
Sound Recognition and Shazam Music Recognition are already available as part of Apple’s broader Audio Intelligence features.
The public release of watchOS 27.3 is expected in December alongside iOS 27.3.
