Apple has released iOS 27 beta 8 to developers, bringing the software another step closer to its public release this month. It succeeds iOS 27 beta 7, with a public beta arriving shortly after to give testers access to the same build.

The update is now available in Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates for anyone enrolled in the Apple Developer Program or the public beta program.

This is the eighth developer beta of iOS 27, as Apple wraps up testing ahead of the final release, expected within the next few days.

A rebuilt Siri at the center

iOS 27 represents one of Apple’s most AI-focused iPhone updates in recent memory, with a rebuilt Siri at its core.

The new version, called Siri AI, is powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Apple’s Foundation Models framework.

It brings richer back-and-forth conversations, broader general knowledge, awareness of what’s currently on screen, and deeper control over third-party apps.

On iPhone, Siri AI gets a new visual presence tied to the Dynamic Island, along with a dedicated Siri app that lets users revisit past conversations across their devices.

Visual Intelligence also joins the assistant, including a new Siri mode inside the Camera app and additional improvements to Camera Control.

Apple Intelligence capabilities are spreading across the system too. Photos, Safari, Mail, Messages, Phone, Passwords, Shortcuts, and Home all receive AI-powered additions.

Some of those features run entirely on-device, while others rely on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure for more demanding tasks.

Design, performance, and everyday features

Outside of Siri, iOS 27 refines the Liquid Glass design language introduced last year. A new transparency slider lets users adjust how much the system interface shows through on glass elements, giving people more control over the look of their iPhone.

Apple has also addressed several performance areas, including faster app launches, quicker Photos loading, a faster Camera launch in Low Power Mode, improved AirDrop transfer speeds, and smoother handoffs between Wi-Fi and cellular connections.

Other additions include Photos keyword tagging and star ratings, customizable slideshows, continuous message sending, Dual Capture in FaceTime, custom equalizer settings for AirPods, AI-generated wallpaper creation, and easier Apple Pay card switching at checkout.

What comes next

With eight developer betas now out, Apple is in the final stretch of iOS 27 testing. The public release is expected this month, alongside Apple’s new iPhone lineup.

Apple typically makes the latest version of iOS available shortly after its fall iPhone event, putting the final release just weeks away.
